Playa Garza: The Quiet Beach Near Nosara Most Tourists Miss

Where Is Playa Garza and Why It Deserves a Visit

If you've already checked out Playa Guiones or Playa Pelada and you're craving something different, Playa Garza Nosara is the hidden gem still flying under most travelers' radar. Located just 15 minutes south of downtown Nosara, this golden-sand beach with calmer waters offers a completely different vibe: fewer surfers, fewer boutique hotels, and a whole lot more peace. This is the kind of place where you can walk the shoreline for an hour and only cross paths with a local fisherman hauling in his boat.

Getting There from Nosara and Sámara

Reaching Playa Garza is easier than most people expect. Coming from Nosara town, head toward Sámara and you'll arrive in under 20 minutes by car, with most of the road paved. If you're starting from Sámara instead, the beach is only about 10 minutes north. A 4x4 isn't strictly required, though we recommend a vehicle with decent ground clearance during rainy season (May through November), when a few stretches can get slippery.

What to Do at Playa Garza: More Than Just Sunbathing

Unlike Guiones, the surf here is gentler, making it a great spot for relaxed swimming or for beginner surfers looking for less intimidating conditions. It's also a favorite among local fishermen, so if you're lucky, you'll catch small boats coming in with the day's catch. Sunrises here are especially memorable, with barely any witnesses and skies painted in soft pink and gold tones.

Amenities and What to Expect Before You Go

Let's be honest: Playa Garza doesn't have the tourist infrastructure of its more famous neighbors. You won't find a row of beachfront restaurants or a vendor every hundred meters. That's exactly part of its charm, but it also means you need to plan ahead—bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and snacks if you're staying for several hours. There are a few local sodas near the main road where you can grab a casado or fresh fish at prices far more affordable than what you'll find in central Nosara.

Tips for a Responsible Visit

At White Picket Fence, we believe lesser-known beaches deserve just as much respect—if not more—than the popular ones. Playa Garza is home to nesting sea turtles during certain seasons, so avoid walking near the vegetation at night between July and December. Pack out your trash, never leave unattended campfires, and be mindful of marine life if you decide to snorkel around the nearby rocky areas.

Complete Your Nosara Beach Route

If Playa Garza won you over with its tranquility, we recommend pairing your visit with our guides to Playa Pelada and Playa Guiones for the full picture of what this stretch of Guanacaste coastline has to offer. Each beach has its own personality, and exploring them all gives you a much richer sense of why Nosara has become one of Costa Rica's favorite destinations for nature, surf, and real disconnection.
